Byron and Masami (Yukawa)/Shigeko (Chino) have known each other for more than 50 years. Their parents were neighbors in New Jersey in the 1970s. Shigeko has made two TV documentaries about the experiences of Byron’s father on Tinian during World War II. And both Shigeko and Haruka (her daughter) have visited Osnabrück and Sylt.
All of us were together for a weekend at the their vacation home in Tsumagoi near Nagano. We walked, fished, made “onigiri”, ate “okonomiyaki”, and took sake-drinking lessons from Katsu (Shigeko’s husband). All 13 of us promised ourselves that we would get together again soon. A highpoint of our entire trip.
